Stencil Typeface

This stencil typeface was used on the sitcom Married With Children over it’s 11 season run from 1987.

At first glance it could be confused with the ‘Stencil’ font that is shipped with Windows systems. However, look at some of the characters. In Stencil, the tail of the R is more curved and in my screenshot the tail of the R is more straighter.

I have found two similar fonts so far: RufCrate and Rubber Stamp.

Would this particular font have been on a Chyron system from the 80’s?

It is RufCrate. The screen snap shows the effects of rasterizing for television. The fly-in names of the cast were set in another face, which resembled Zapf International (aka URW Antiqua or Zapf Antiqua), but there are small but distinctive differences.

Having done some more reasearch, it appears to be Rubber Stamp LET. Thomas Harvey ruled out RufCrate himself when i showed him the same screenshot.

The reason why i say it’s Rubber Stamp because on the season 11 opening credits, the actor names appear much clearer and the distressed blemish marks on these characters appear in the same places as they do when matched against the Rubber Stamp character map.
